Activities In and Around Cambria

California Coastline

Cambria is a great place to get away. There is so much to see around town and beyond.

  • Visit Heart Castle
  • See the elephant seals north of San Simeon
  • Enjoy Moonstone Beach
  • Kayak in San Simeon, Morro Bay or Avila Beach
  • Hike through town, along the Big Sur coast or at Montana del Oro State Park
  • Play in the sand dunes at Pismo Beach
  • Relax in old-town San Luis Obispo
  • Bike along the spectacular California coast
  • Visit wineries in and around Paso Robles

The town offers many art and antique shops. There are a wide variety of excellent restaurants and no fast food chains (by design). Like every small town, Cambria has a variety of parades, social events and Friday farmer's markets that will take you back to a simpler time.

Moonstone Beach is one of the nicest beaches on the Central Coast for "tide pooling" by kids of all ages, or look for those famous Moonstones!
Water Sports are extremely popular along California's Central Coast. Sea kayaking trips along the coast are available in Cambria and Morro Bay. Excellent windsurfing can be found at Arroyo Laguna, 15 minutes to the north. Depending on the wind and tide, you can have flat water cruising or surf sailing. Remember to bring your small sails!
Hearst Castle, in San Simeon, is just a 10 minute drive north. The tours are outstanding. There is also excellent hiking and biking in the San Simeon area.
Elephant Seals can be seen (and heard) just north of Cambria at the colony near Piedras Blancas. These immense animals can exceed 8 feet in length and weigh several thousand pounds. Other species of seals and otters can be seen at many local beaches.
Wine Tasting is a popular pastime in nearby Paso Robles. San Luis Obispo County is gaining a well-deserved reputation for excellent wines. Go to our Links page for web sites devoted to Central Coast wineries.
